THE WISE WOMAN – Deacon Ayotunde Sobola (Parish Pastor)
This is an excerpt of the Pastor’s message during the recent GOOD WOMEN FELLOWSHIP in the church on the 27th of Sept. 2009.
Introduction: Proverbs 14: 1. “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.
Psalm 127:1. “Except the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is useless”.
Heb. 3:4 “For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything”.
There are three outlines for this teaching:
1. God’s requirement for building a house.
2. God’s counsel to women.
3. An example of a wise woman.
We need to understand that the builder of all things is God. So no matter what you want to build, without God it is nothing. Anything that will last needs God for it to be successful, for without God, we can do nothing.
When we join this statement together with Proverbs 14:1, we can say that a woman with God’s support is the builder of the home. Every woman working hand-in-hand with God is the one that can build a house. Funny but true that the responsibility for building a home belongs to the woman.
1. God’s requirement for building a house is WISDOM. Mat. 7:24-27, Luke 6: 46-49, Pro. 24:3
2. God’s counsel to women. Pro. 14:1, Pro. 12: 4, Pro.31: 26-27
3. An example of a wise woman: ABIGAIL. What can we learn from the life of Abigail? 1 Sam. 25: 1-42. These are some characteristics of Abigail, the wise woman.
i. She had good rapport with the servants. It can be your house girl, house maid, your husband’s colleague, your workers etc verse 14. Naaman’s servant girl rescued him from leprosy, you need to have good relationship with this people in your life.
ii. I sam. 25: 18. She made haste upon hearing the news, she is decisive, many women can’t take decisions on their own.
iii. She didn’t start the process by blaming the husband or calling her father-in-law to report the husband, you need to learn to keep information in your marriage.
iv. She spoke with wisdom to David and respected him.
v. Abigail is well informed about her environment, she’s aware that David had been appointed king even though Saul was still ruling them, some women don’t know about their environment, they don’t read.
vi. She is given to hospitality.
vii. She saved her family from David’s anger. Saved David from killing unnecessarily.
viii. She understands her husband’s mood, she didn’t talk to him in his drunken state. Many women do not understand when to make requests or talk to their husband.
ix. Many women would have divorced the husband after thinking they have been patient enough, the husband died when it is time.
x. She was rewarded as she became David’s wife, a queen in Isreal.
God can use you to save your household, don’t give up no matter the situation in your family, God will fight for you and your home will become a testimony in Jesus name.
